We have all been thinking that being born normal is normal. Wee, this story is shocking. Claudio Viera de Oliveira was born with an upside-down head, severely deformed limbs and his mother was told by doctors she should allow him to die.But he has defied the odds so much that he now has written a book about his life after reaching the age of 40.

Mr Oliveria from Monte Santo in Brazil, was born with arthrogryposis, a rare condition that fuses his joints together, which left him with his head upside down and facing the wrong way.But after learning he could use a pen in his mouth to type words and even his lips to use a mouse or a phone, he came up with ways of overcoming his difficulties. He even went on to qualify as an accountant and gives inspirational speeches at special events. Now, Mr Oliveria has publishes his first book, called ‘El mundo esta a contramano’ .

When Mr Oliveria was born, doctors told his mother, Maria Jose Vieira Martins, she should starve him to death as he was so ill.She explained: ‘People started to tell me that my baby was going to die because he could hardly breathe when he was born. Some told me not to feed him.’But despite the advice, she decided to ignore doctors and Mr Oliveria taught himself everyday skills. He explained:’Since I was a child I’ve always liked to keep myself busy and work – I don’t like to depend totally on other people,’ he said. ‘I do a bit of accounting, research for clients and consulting.I have learned to turn on the TV, pick up my cell phone, turn on the radio, use the internet, my computer – I do it all by myself.’

His independence also saw him succeeding at school and qualifying as an accountant from the State University of Feira de Santana. His mother added: ‘We never tried to fix him and always wanted him to do the normal things everyone else does.’That’s why he is so confident. He is not ashamed of walking around in the street – he sings and he dances.

‘At eight years old, Mr Oliveria, who had previously been carried everywhere, began to walk on his knees. His family had to change the floor of the house so he could walk around without injuring himself. His bed, plugs and lights had to be made lower so that he could do things for himself without asking for help.He cannot use a wheelchair because of his unusual shape, making it hard for him to be independent outside the home – but he begged his mother to be allowed to go to school and learn with the other children.

He added:’Throughout my life I was able to adapt my body to the world. Right now, I don’t see myself as being different. I am a normal person. ‘I don’t see things upside-down. This is one of the things I always talk about in my interventions as a public speaker. Nowadays it’s much easier to deal with the public, I’m not afraid of it anymore and I can say that I am a professional, international public speaker and that I receive invitations from all over the world.’

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is set to increase its capacity to test for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) to 1500 per day in the country.
Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director General of NCDC, gave the reassurance at the Presidential Taskforce Briefing on COVID-19 on Tuesday in Abuja.
Ihekweazu said that the focus of NCDC efforts was to improve the number of people that could be tested.
“Last week, we had the capacity to test 500 per day, by the end of this week we will be at 1000 a day.
“By next week we are hoping to get to 1500 a day, “ he said.
Ihekweazu, however, said that Nigerians need to reduce the demand side of the testing to those who really needed it.
He noted that the more the people force themselves into being tested, the less NCDC would have the capacity to test those who really need the testing.
Ihekweazu said that these people that really need the testing would be transmitting it into the community and more people would get infected.
According to him, by testing those that do not need it, people are blocking the system and there’s a price to pay.
In a related development, the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq , said that the ministry was unrelenting in its school children feeding.
She said, rather, the ministry would liaise with the state governments to work out the modalities to know how to go about the programme, despite the stay-at-home directive.
Farouq also disclosed that the ministry has about 2.6 million poor and vulnerable households on its social register.
She said that, so far, the ministry had reached out to about 1 million indigent people.

A Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Esther Akpan, age 29, has been arrested by the Lagos State command of the Nigeria Police.
MP3S gathered that Mrs. Akpan who teaches at God’s Grace And Mercy Private School, Lagos, was arrested for being in the habit of stealing and eating the pupils’ meal while the kids starve.
The unfortunate Teacher was then reported to the school’s Proprietor by the Parents of the kids – who later teamed up with few others in making sure the culprit is caught red-handed.
According to a source, Esther was however caught on camera while eating the pupils’ meal – as if that was not enough – she also came with two different plates with which she had turned their foods into.
The Suspect, however confessed to the crime saying, “I take most of the food and snacks of the kids home while I eat some in the school.
“I promise not to repeat such anymore, it’s the devil’s handiwork”, she said.
Speaking on the report, the Proprietor of the school, Mr Patrick Osakwe says “I’ve never owed any of my workers their salaries, in fact every Monday, I give each teacher one thousand naira (N1,000) which is not part of their salaries.
“I pay them well and most of them go home with the school bus, I see no reason why she should have indulged herself in such mess.”
Esther is under Police detention for further investigation as at the time of filing this report.
