In Abia State 10 IPOB Members Got Arrested

Seven members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have been reportedly arrested by a combined team of security agencies in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State.

IPOB members, numbering over 100, reportedly took to the streets of Aba on Monday in peaceful protest of what they described as the killing of Christians and Biafrans in the country.

They were spotted with Biafran flags, charms and different insigna.

The protest, according to information, took off from the popular Ala Oji Flyover in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area and later terminated at SAMECK junction of Ariaria International Market.

Unconfirmed report had it that one of the leaders of the protesters, whose name could not be immediately ascertained, was among those arrested.

Sources within SAMECK told our reporter there was heavy shooting by the security agencies in an attempt to disperse the protesters with some of the IPOB members injured.

But a military source debunked the report, saying they were only there to maintain peace and disperse the protesters peacefully.

Police Arrest Man With A Dead Baby In Abia State

Police in Abia State have saved a man from a lynch mob in Aba after he was reportedly seen with a dead baby.

The suspect was said to be unable to explain how he ended up with the baby, neither could he provide any information on the mother’s whereabouts.

On getting close to the scene, they noticed that some members of the crowd were bearing several dangerous weapons.

The police team was said to have quickly intervened and moved the suspect away.

The man in his early thirties and a regular face in the area, it was gathered, was thought to be mentally unstable but after seeing him with the dead baby, people started seeing him in a new light.

“The incident this morning has made us doubt the true state of his mental derangement,” one source said. “The question that we want the police to help us ask him is, where he got the baby and where he is taking the baby to?”

GIST: Abia State Govt Warns Over Secretly Reopening Private Schools

Abia state Government has warned private school owners in the state to
desist from the secret reopening of their schools in the face of the
COVID-19 pandemic.

A statement from the Ministry of Education said it has come to the
knowledge of the Ministry that some proprietors are secretly reopening
and running their private schools despite Government’s directive to
the contrary.

The Ministry warned that COVID-19 is real and as such, no school
proprietor should elevate his or her personal gain above the life and
well-being of the Abia child.

The Ministry noted that the State Government under Governor Dr Okezie
Ikpeazu started Radio/TV Classroom Program to cater for the interest
of all Abia children while they are at home as a result of the
restrictions necessitated by COVID-19 and wondered why private school
owners were hell bent on having the children back to school.

“Everyone is expected to take advantage of this platform and ensure
our children learn conveniently at home in this trying time without
constituting a risk to either themselves or to others instead of
secretly running school activities that completely negate the basic
expectation of protecting the Abia child against the ravaging
coronavirus”

It continued, “Consequently, all those operating any form of physical
school activities for pupils and students are hereby strongly advised
to desist from carrying on with such activities immediately. Anyone
caught in these practice after this announcement will face the full
weight of the consequences of their action even up to closing down
such schools permanently and also blacklisting the Proprietor”.

The Ministry however assured the public that it would announced when
it is right to reopen schools, pointing out that all Schools would
remain closed in the interest of all citizens and residents of the
state.
